Puppis, or the Stern, is part of a huge constellation called Argo Navis. Peoples of the
Mediterranean and Arabic tribes easily saw the constellation in the winter months when the nights were long and there was little to do. The constellation was named by Greek observers who fancied they saw Athena lifting the famous craft, the Argo, into the heavens to memorialize its voyage in search of the Golden Fleece.
